佐藤 元洋  Motohiro Sato

Born in 1993, Shizuoka / Japan. 

 

Motohiro Sato won numerous prizes at many big piano competitions since childhood. To name a few, at the Chopin International Piano Competition in ASIA, All-Japan Student Music Competition, Osaka International Music Competition, and so on. 

 

He has already appeared in many recitals (in Germany, France, Poland, Republic of Korea, and especially Japan), and also performed with major orchestras as a soloist, including the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, and the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra.

 

In 2014, invited to Seoul International Music Festival, and won the 2nd prize at the 12th Tokyo Music Competition. In 2017 won the 3rd prize in the prestigious Artur-Schnabel-Competition in Berlin.
At the 7th Sendai International Music Competition in 2019 he won the 4th prize, and performed three piano concertos with the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra under the conducting of Junich Hirokami. After the competition, he has been praised by several music magazines as "a promising musician for the next generation".

That same year, also he got a silver medal at the 3rd Berliner International Music Competition.


He studied at “Tokyo University of the Arts” (GEIDAI) under Prof. Kei Itoh. When graduating, he got three special prizes (Acanthus Music Award, GEIDAI Clavier Award, DOUSEIKAI Award) from the university. Now he is studying at "Berlin University of the Arts" (UdK Berlin) under Prof. Björn Lehmann.
